Reviving a Corroded Bosch E46 M3 Cluster
A leaky capacitor had caused significant corrosion to the power delivery section of the PCB. Since all Bosch E46 clusters share the same layout, and the M3 cluster is extremely expensive, I was tasked with transplanting the microprocessor and other critical components from the M3 cluster into a standard Bosch E46 cluster.
It was a challenging and meticulous task, but I had previously worked on various clusters, including replacing LEDs and removing EEPROMs to allow for reprogramming. Thanks to my prior experience, the process went relatively smoothly.
After several hours of focused work, the transplant was a success. The cluster was fully functional again, and it was now ready to be installed back into the car.
