E92 M3 Paddle Shift Modification for LCI Compatibility

May 24, 2017

I was tasked with modifying the pre-LCI DCT shift paddles from an E92 M3 to make them compatible with the LCI version. After reviewing several photos online, it became evident that the older style paddles required both a digital-to-analog conversion and a socket re-pinning to function properly in LCI-equipped cars.

To solve this, I soldered a 1.18k ohm resistor in-line to pin 1, and a 4.99k ohm resistor between pin 1 and pin 3 on the upshift paddle, which made it work as intended. For the downshift paddle, I soldered a 348 ohm resistor in-line to pin 1, and a 6.2k ohm resistor between pin 1 and pin 3, which successfully enabled it to function as well. This modification ensures that both paddles now work seamlessly in the LCI M3.
