M-Track Mode on the E46 M3 with MK60 DSC

Jul 30, 2015

This feature was standard on the CSL version of the E46 M3 but was not available on the regular M3. However, cars equipped with the MK60 DSC system can be retrofitted with the M-Track Mode feature, allowing for a two-stage traction control system instead of the simple on-off functionality found in standard M3 models.

To enable this feature, a small hardware modification is required. This involves disassembling the instrument cluster and soldering in a 0-ohm and a 147-ohm resistor along with a yellow PLCC-2 SMD LED. Once installed, the cluster will properly indicate when M-Track Mode is active.

The final step is coding the MK60 DSC module using NCS-Expert. After making the necessary software modifications, M-Track Mode can be activated by pressing the DSC button on the center console. Holding the button for 10 seconds will completely disable the traction control system.
