This EVSE unit had been used daily since our friends purchased their Golf 7 GTE. Over time, it occasionally cut out while charging, but simply unplugging and reconnecting it usually resolved the issue.

After a short while, the unit began displaying red LEDs on the interface. Initially, they assumed this was due to overheating, but further investigation revealed that overheating was not the cause.

Inside the unit, there are two Hongfa HF92F-024D-2A21F relays, which are rated for approximately 100,000 switching cycles before they begin to degrade. As expected, the frequent use of the charger had likely worn them out, leading to the intermittent failures.

Fortunately, these relays are readily available, so ordering replacements and swapping them out was a straightforward process. Ever since the replacement, the unit has functioned normally, without any unexpected cutouts or other issues. This simple fix restored the charger’s reliability and extended its lifespan significantly.
